Opening the Doors

We ran a Lunch & Learn and opened it to 20 people from outside the company with a first come first served policy and it filled up almost instantly and on top of that we are properly bringing back Lyra Space where Anthropic ran their first ever Australian event in this room, OpenAI have been here, so have NextGen Ventures and January Capital, and we would rather that keep happening than have the best balcony in Sydney sit empty on a Thursday night. If you want to run something here, the door is open and we will help you put it on.

Brisbane is Happening

Sydney, Melbourne, and now Brisbane. It feels unreal but it's offical and we are hiring 20 engineers to build it. Worth remembering the Melbourne office did not exist in February and is now 15 engineers deep, so we have a rough idea how this goes. Two weeks after the announcement we had our first Brisbane hire signed.

Sukhi Broke LinkedIn

Sukhi posted offering to give away 7+ MacBooks on the grounds that he has too many MacBooks and not enough engineers. It went off, 1k+ likes and a comment section that turned into an open hiring line (the joke works because it's true). Our biggest thing outside the office this month with round 100 students signed up across 32 teams and we ran 2 nights of it at UNSW. On the Wednesday, Falco, Hindie, Aarnav and Dimas sat through an interview format where every question was printed across four boards and peeled off one at a time, no prep and nowhere to hide, then went straight into mentoring the teams until half eight. Pitch day was the Saturday. Standing in a lecture theatre full of people building something at 8pm on a weeknight is a good reminder of why we bother with any of this.

The room got bigger in 3 cities this month, which is a sentence we could not have written in June.
